We had a great night. There was a bit of drama to start our night, got on the bus and 3 teenagers were wanting to get on as well but the bus driver refused them. As we were pulling away one of them kicked the door, so the bus driver stopped and foolishly got off the bus. He was then assaulted by one of them, so the bus driver chased him but didn't get him. One of the other passengers also got off and helped to get him but he got away.
Tony, too was going to assist but I stopped him so he only stood at the door of the bus. The bus driver was OK and so we resumed our trip into the city. Geez I hope that this wasn't a forerunner to our night.
As we approached the bus, the driver was outside having a cigarette. After the incident he said that the one who had hit him had asked for a cigarette but he refused to give him one as he was under age. Maybe that was the reason for the agro.
We got into the city and headed for Elder Park. There were more people there than what they had in the last couple of years. While waiting for the fireworks we got to talking to a guy who had asked me to take a photo of him.
It turned out that his name was David, and that he came from Mexico with his wife, and had only been in Australia for a few months. His wife was working and he had hoped she would join him before midnight, but she rang him shortly after midnight to let him know that she was on her way. We had a very interesting chat with him and he took our email address and promised to get back in touch.
After the fireworks we caught the tram down to Glenelg. It was very quiet on the tram on the way down there and not much better on the way back into the city. Apart from some guy, who had brought with him a radio/cd player and had that blaring out to some so called music, (dance, I think they call it). Geez, the partygoers were very subdued last night......not like they have been in past years.
Back into the city and we went to have a coffee and even our coffee shop was closed. Blimey! what was going on! There was not even the vibe in the city that is usually there. Still wanting a coffee we thought we would go to the Pancake Kitchen, so we ended up having pancakes and coffee.
Caught the bus back home getting back at 4.00am. All in all Tony and I enjoyed it, better than staying home. Will do it all again next New Year, God willing.
Got up around 11.00am and just did nothing for most of the day. A New Year and nothing's changed.........lol. Tonight we went down to Henley Square, Henley Beach for dinner and had a yummy seafood platter for 2, It consisted of prawns, fish, salt and pepper squid and mussels (which we don't have).
Had a walk along the jetty, a few people were fishing and crabbing. They were catching quite a few crabs, but all were undersize except one guy who caught a nice sized blue swimmer crab.
From the Lens..........Henley Square
Zootz.....where we ate dinner
