Today is Remembrance Day or in some countries known as Armistice Day or Poppy Day. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month we observe a minutes silence to remember our fallen soldiers of wars past and present and the sacrifices they made to give us the freedom we enjoy today. It is the day World War 1 ended in 1918.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
from the poem "For The Fallen" by Laurence Binyon 1914
"Lest We Forget"
The Poppy is also the significant flower to wear on this day. It symbolises the Poppy fields in Flanders about which a poem is also written.
