A Dark Day For Australian Sport

Friday 8th February, 2013

The weather has been ideal for most of the week, although it did get into the mid 30's on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The garden looks as if it could do with some rain.

I am still doing laundry.  What I failed to mention was that when we we arrived home on the Saturday and I was sorting through the clothes I realised we had left a bag of dirty laundry at the motel in Swan Hill.  Tony rang them, the cleaner had found it, and so they posted the bag back to us which we got last Friday.  There were more clothes in it than I thought.

On Thursday I met Dianne for lunch.  We ended up going to West Lakes.

Other than that the week has been relatively quiet.

For sports enthusiasts, the news was not good.  A report, done by the Australian Crimes Commission, has found that across a number professional sporting codes in this country, some are accused of  illegal drug taking, doping, match fixing and connection to organised crime.

It has been a long held belief that cyclists and weight lifters are involved in drug taking.  This has been proved recently with Lance Armstrong finally coming out and admitting that he was involved in illegal substances and doping.  Consequently he was stripped of his seven Tour Du France wins.

Now it appears our football codes, Australian Rules, Rugby, Rugby League and Soccer are also involved.  One of the footy clubs, Essendon, have admitted they might have compromised their players.  An investigation is now under way.

Who knows where this may lead.  Has the football supporter been duped?  Was that unbelievable high mark really the players ability to leap high, or was he able to leap due to some other means.  A mid fielder runs a marathon practically every game, is that because of his pure athletic ability or ..........? The questions will always be asked!

  1. I have to agree that it is sad that our sports figures use enhancements to perform better. However, while the officials are busy uncovering dirt on the players, why do they not admit to their own use of some of these same enhancements? Makes you wonder!

Our snow is fast melting between the warmer temps and yesterday's rain. Now we'll wait to see what the next round of weather holds for us.

I have to say that laundry is my favorite part of household chores. I do not like cleaning the house but I do like to do the laundry. Go figure!

You have a wonderful day. Hugs, Edna B.
