I'm Back!!!!

Hey there it's me!! No, I haven't fallen off the twig and I haven't been sick. I just want my life back the way it was. Now don't get me wrong. I LOVE my husband but with him being home 24/7 I just can't get into a routine no matter how hard I try. It's just like I am on a permanent holiday.
We are hardly ever home, most days we are out doing something, whether it be appointments, buying something for the house or getting quotes on work we want doing. When we get home I don't want to do anything, I just flop into my chair in front of the TV. I am so not used to running around any more.....I prefer the sedentary life.
The days we are home we have had workman in doing some work around the house. We finally had the kitchen finished and we've also had the pavers in the courtyard replaced. Now we are waiting on the guy to come and lay a new floor in our hallway.
It took us more than a week to clean up after the kitchen was finished. We had to do a total spring clean, washing ceilings, walls, windows, curtains, light fittings and cleaning out every single cupboard in the kitchen and display units.
Due to the ultra violet rays of the sun, the carpet in front of the sliding doors to the courtyard has rotted. We did have a rather large piece of off cut carpet but when Tony got it out it wasn't as big as what we thought.
Knowing that I wouldn't be happy to have the carpet joined in several places we decided on a new floor. We couldn't decide whether to put tiles down or a floating wood floor. In the end we decided that the wood floor might be the way to go.
Another reason was also our weather has been perfect the last few weeks. We are into Autumn now and even though we have the cooler nights the days are just glorious and we have been enjoying them by being outdoors.
I can't believe that I last posted well over a month ago. That's how fast time is flying by. Maybe it's also because we have been really busy. I can see that things will quieten down and I will be able to post here more regularly. Winter will be here before we know it and we won't be going out as often.
We have seen Katie, if only for a few hours. Taylor rung me and asked if Katie could come to her place for a sleepover. Apparently they had been 'talking' to one another via Facebook and had arranged the sleepover. As Kahra and Jodi are not the greatest of 'friends' it was up to us to pick Katie up and drop her off.
She leads a very busy life too. As Darrin said to me, "We hardly see her anymore, she is hardly ever home and when she is we have to make an appointment to see her". She has taken up dancing and is still doing her Karate. She is busy at school, she even has to do homework this year which has been a shock to her. She is a team captain at school and told us that she may not do choir this year as she is too busy....lol.
Taylor and Katie spent a lovely weekend together. On the Sunday we had arranged to pick Katie up early so that we could spend some time with her but as with all good plans they went out the window. In the end we took both Taylor and Katie to the Garden of Unearthly Delights, something which Jodi had promised to do with them.
Today is a rare day that we are spending at home. Tony has a doctors appointment later on today and I thought I would stay home and get some of the laundry done. It is so bad we had to go out yesterday and buy us some clothes to wear.......hahahaha, just kidding.
We did buy some new clothes but they're mostly much needed winter ones. Now I have to have a sort through, I haven't got enough clothes hangers on which to hang these new ones.

Love Is All Around Today

Happy Valentine's Day everyone. We don't do anything special on Valentine's Day, it's another day that has become very commercialised. I remember years ago it was a day of mystery, you would maybe receive a card or some flowers and a mystery note and you would try and guess who it was from. It was so much fun trying to work out who your secret admirer was. That doesn't happen so much these days.
Well we have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous weather wise. In the last 24 hours we have had so much rain.....over 75mm or 3 inches, and it has been the wettest February day since 1969.
With the ground being so hard the water didn't soak in, it just ran off and so hundreds of people had flooding in their homes. Also with the strong winds we'd been having, leaves, twigs and branches had blown off the trees and many of the storm water drains got blocked.
Our vanity area leaked again but with Tony being home he could get into the ceiling and actually see where it was coming from. Previously he thought it was due to the old air conditioner being rusted, but that wasn't the case.
We have a skylight in the area and the dome of the light was cracked which was letting the water in. He siliconed it up and the leaking has stopped. We will have to look at getting a new skylight though.
The kitchen is progressing very nicely. It looks as if it will be finished sometime today but I am not looking forward to the cleanup. There is so much dust everywhere it looks as if we will be doing a very early spring clean. We can hardly see out of the kitchen window due to all the dust.
All of my beautiful clean kitchen cupboards will have to be emptied and everything washed again. Any offers of help will be accepted......lol. The kitchen is looking good and we are happy with it.

A Summer That Keeps Breaking Records

I know I sound like a broken record but this summer has been one of breaking records. Today, the temperature got to 42C and so this meant we have had the most days (12 days) where the temperature has gone above 40C. Tomorrow we are expecting the mercury to go even higher....43C.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday the forecast is for rain. Yeah right!! I'll believe that when I see it. They say Adelaide may get 30mm plus on Friday. Let's hope we do get some rain. I am sure the firefighters that are still trying to control the Bangor fire will welcome it. That fire has been burning since the middle of January and is still nowhere near contained.
On Saturday night we went with Robyn and Bob out for dinner and then on to Her Majestys' Theatre for a night of Del Shannon and Roy Orbison's music. It was fantastic!!
The concert was a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the release of Roy Orbison's, "Oh Pretty Woman". Dean Bourne sang Roy Orbison and Fallon sang Del Shannon. They both had amazing voices and Dean Bourne really sounded like Roy Orbison. They say he has the "spirit" of Roy Orbison with him.
They rocked the Theatre on Saturday night and no-one left disappointed. It was an amazing night, that no-one wanted to see end.

Tomorrow the kitchen people are coming to finish my kitchen. I have gotten used to having no doors on the cupboards.....at least it's cut my housework down by not having to wipe them over every week.

And The Heat Goes On....

We have all just about had enough of this heat. Not too many people you speak to are enjoying it. On Sunday we had our hottest day ever for February ....44.7C and silly me went to a Kaszazz Demonstration. They said that we would be having the larger room than what we normally do for our Card/Scrapbooking workshops and it would be cooler in there. Hahahaha.....it was so hot in there, the air conditioning couldn't keep up.
On Monday we had a small respite from the heat but during the night gale force winds came and caused havoc. Trees fell on cars and houses, power lines came down and there are still thousands of people without power. Even one of Adelaide's prestigious colleges had their windows blown out. The emergency services said it was the worst damage they had seen.
Because of our hot weather the trees are under stress. We have hardly had any rain and so the ground is bone dry. When we get strong winds the trees and/or limbs just come crashing down. Plus we have lots of gum trees planted as streetscape trees. They grow so big, the limbs overhang house roofs and so when they fall, it's peoples' homes that get damaged. Gum trees have no place growing in suburbia in my opinion.
It's not that simple to cut down and replace these trees. Due to some very strange laws in this state any tree with a certain trunk circumference can not be cut regardless of whether it may fall and cause damage. Also local councils are apparently not responsible for any damage caused by trees planted by them.
I am not anti trees. We need them, but there so many more beautiful types of trees that can be grown. The nicest streets are those that have trees that are not too tall and have a shady canopy. Gum trees are so messy by dropping their bark, leaves and limbs and hardly anything grows underneath them. I would love to see them all replaced and just grown in the bush.

On Monday, with just a strong breeze a limb of a tree fell onto a 2 year old while he was riding his bike in the park. He got a broken leg out of it, but others have not been so lucky (if you can call it that), they have lost their lives.

The first month of 2014 is nearly over and we survived it. The weatherman said it has been the 4th hottest January on record and the heat isn't over yet. Today the temperature is expected to reach 40C, over the weekend it is expected to get to 43C, cool down Monday and Tuesday to the low 30C's and then steadily climb back up to the high 30/40C's.
After all it is Summer and staying indoors with the airconditioning on, you don't notice how hot it really is outside until you go out there.
Tonight the Chinese celebrate their New Year. This year it is the year of the wooden Horse.

Happy Australia Day!!!
Well for some of us it will be but for our indigenous people they still think it's a day for remembering the invasion of their country and the genocide that followed. If it wasn't the English who founded our country it would have been the Dutch or Spanish or some other European country and where would the aboriginal people be then.....maybe completely wiped out.
It gets to be a tired argument each year.....why can't we all move forward? They have had the apology for the Stolen Generation from the government, they are given billions of dollars each year from companies who mine on their land and from the government. What do they want?
The true aboriginal is rarely seen.....they are happy to live in the central and remote areas of the country. Those with the loudest voice are the ones who live in the cities, barely a gram of aboriginal blood in their bodies and yet still class themselves as aboriginals so that they can claim all the lurks and perks.
On any official form we have to fill out one of the questions asked is whether you are aboriginal or a Torres Strait islander. I never answer the question as I believe that we are all Australian but one day I am going to tick the box 'yes' just to see what happens.
I know I am sounding very un-Australian but I just wish we could all live in this country as one. So many immigrants have come to this wonderful country and are so happy to accept it as their new home and we Australians embrace them.
This was seen tonight in the Australia Day parade. Tony and I went into the city to watch the parade. You could see that they were proud of their heritage but equally as proud to be called an Australian. And the Australians in the crowd clapped and cheered for them. It was great to see!
As one English lady said to us when it was all over, "I just wish that they could do something like this back home in England". She is now a resident of Australia but it was her first Australia Day parade and she was very impressed.

By the way, the Aboriginal community usually lead this parade and have done so in past years, but this year they were conspicuous by their absence.
